My Hips Don't Lie

Okay, so regular posting epic fail. Life - it happens.
Anywho, I'm attempting to hop back on the blogging train! After all, spooning happens on a daily basis, so my blogging about it should, too.

Essentially, hips are important, especially if you're a girl or you're spooning with a girl (and in some cases both apply!) Although I know some gentlemen - especially some super spicy salsa dancers - with particularly fabulous hips, I think of hips as a primarily female feature. Granted, everybody walking around has hips, but the sheer sexy curviness of hips lies primarily in woman's domain in my personal (and admittedly heavily biased - but it's my blog, that's kind of the point) opinion.

Let's face it - hips are important. Even Barbie has semi-functional hips, even though her knees don't work. Sure, her boobs are so big and her feet so wacky that she would fall over and be completely immobile if she were a real person, but hey, she can sit and do the splits and work some hot little dresses because she's got those hips! Not only do hips let your legs move, but they're sexy. How could we be expected to shake it like a Polaroid picture without hips? Would Shakira be the goddess she is and would Elvis clocks be nearly as awesome without hips?

Ummm...NO!

So how do hips work into spooning? Hips create the perfect groove for resting a big spoon's over arm. Furthermore, hips allow you to master The Leap if you're a big spoon. And now you're wondering what's The Leap, right? The Leap is short for The Leg-Wrap, and furthermore it constitutes a big leap in comfort levels between spoons. I'm not talking a Batman leaping between buildings type leap. I'm talking more one of those awkward person-on-a-trampoline type leaps, small, but taking a little consideration and thought.

If you're comfortable with your little spoon, you can opt to wrap your leg over their body, pulling them closer. This takes a wee bit of flexibility, but it's totally worth it. And if you're really bendy (like Bend It Like Beckam bendy), you can opt to put your leg up and over your little spoon's hip! This can get uncomfortable after a while, but it can be nice. It's also pretty intimate, because it gets you really close, and by "you" I mean "your pelvises." So...on that note, enjoy!

the lonely epidermis and Cher

Please forgive me. I'm exhausted, and I got my H1N1 mist today which is making me feel kind of gross right now. If you consider this post inferior to the others in any way, (A) my apologies, and (B) just enjoy the excuse to laugh at me even more than usual because I'm not only as ridiculous as usual but also more stupid than usual.

There has been interest expressed in me continuing the body parts theme I had been going with about a week ago. I will go back to that (starting most likely with legs) in a couple of days, once I get real snuggles. In the meanwhile, it just makes my skin too lonely to write in vivid detail about my snuggling opinions. And no one likes a lonely epidermis.

For tonight, in keeping with last night's sexiness theme, and due in part to the fact that I just watched it: Moonstruck is an incredible movie. If you haven't seen Cher in her Oscar winning role, definitely take it under advisement. Not only is it perhaps one of the sexiest things I've ever seen (and I've seen some sexy things people), but you can watch it again and again because it's simply that incredible. It has a myriad of fine details (the hand in the airport, the wedding dress in the window, etc) that make it even more amazing each time you watch it. It's a very snuggle worthy movie, filled with scenes of old people romance, moon gazing, and an adorable old man with dogs. Who doesn't love an old man with dogs and old people romance? Very few people. Then again, I have a particular fondness for old people in general. I think they're super awesome. Nicholas Cage and Cher are phenomenal, with witty dialogue that you can easily adopt into a myriad of handy life mantras. Heck yes. I know it makes me feel super cuddly, and since it's plot is fairly simple and can be enjoyed even when you're at minimal capacity in regard to your intelligence (like me right now), it's a perfect choice for spooning!

Moonstruck gets 6 spoons up (6 being the size of an average dinner table, and thus an optimal number of spoons, assuming you are not using iced tea spoons, which I must acknowledge is a VERY southern thing.).

Anywho, I'm thinking after I finish going through various body parts and opinions and if I can't get my i-Tunes fixed, I'll go for an exploration of spoon worthy movies. It's definitely an option!

Sexiness Happens

How epic is that screen cap? SO epic. That's from a conversation I had with one of my guy friends the other night. I love it. I want it on t-shirts, with a big "LOL" on the back. But why is this screen cap super appropriate? Today I'm blogging about spooning and sexiness!

You see, I totally spazzed out the other night because one of my guy friends told me that spooning is ALWAYS about sex.

Not to go all first grader on you guys, but ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. No. Not everything is about sex. But he says if you're snuggling with guys, it's "always" about sex (ironic considering he'd said he wanted to snuggle the night before when I talked to him). I found this icky. It's so icky that I'm not even going to use a more grownup word like "disgusting," "repulsive," or "revolting" to refer to it. It's just plain icky.

I don't think snuggling is about sex. Sure it most definitely CAN be. But not always, and not necessarily. But I just like being close to people and all physically wrapped up in them as much as I tend to be intellectually and emotionally. And it can still be somewhat sexy. I mean, let's face it, I only spoon with sexy people. It's a requirement. JK. Kind of. Not really. (I promise, I'm not really that shallow. I just happen to know loads of super sexy people.) And when you have a bunch of sexy people together, it's just naturally sexy. It's the way of the world. But that doesn't make it necessarily erotic or anything. And it's not like forthcoming sexual exploits are implied by any means, and it's not like sexy times are the goal. We just exude sexiness, and as we all know, sexiness happens.

So what have we learned? Sexy people are sexy. Spooning with them is naturally sexy, but in a more "that's hot" kind of way rather than a "sexy times are imminent" kind of way.

Now, you can totally take it to that level with a little extra touching and a little less clothing, but that's your prerogative, and that's when it stops being sexy spooning and goes to sporking.

I'm bein' spon-tan-u-ous

Right now I'm listening to "My Beautiful Rescue" by This Providence. It's pretty much fanfreakingtastic. It's the kind of song that you just hear and you automatically start swaying and wish you had a bunch of people to sway with you. Or at least, I do.

Today I want to talk about spoontaneity. This is of course my personal hybrid word composed of of spooning and spontaneity. As Miley Cyrus says in her hit "Nobody's Perfect," "it might be crazy; I'll do it anyways!" There's something to be said for running headlong into something and throwing the humdrum ordinary things to the wind a little bit. Only you don't have to do something super crazy to make something exciting!

How the heck does spontaneity relate to spooning at all? Mix it up people! If you've been spooning with somebody for a while, switch it up a little. Keep your fave utensil on their shiny metal metaphorical toes. Grab your spoon's hand and take them somewhere new. Never spooned outside? Go for it! Never switched big and little spoon? Turn yo'selves over! (Although I know some people are strongly biased one way or the ever. I'll admit it - I am, too. But mixing it up sometimes can be fun!) Never tried the warlock? Grab that hand, you crazy spoon, you! Never played with your utensil's hair before? Get to playing! So your handhold ends up being awkward or something, or your reversal of your usual spooning positions ends up sucking? Let's go back to the sage wisdom of Miss Miley Cyrus, "Nobody's perfect, I've got to work it...nobody's perfect, you live and you learn it!" Change it again. Optimal spooning is a process, not a destination people.

So try mixing it up - you just might like it!

I know it sounds like a little thing, but spooning is all about the little things. God is in the details, people. Or in this case, utter bliss is in the details!

I'm sure some of you are wondering about the title of today's post, "I'm bein' spon-tan-u-ous." It is a quote from the cinematic gem Happy Feet, which though it features penguins as so many movies have recently and has a far fetched premise that penguins could save themselves from starvation by tapdancing, is a great film to enjoy with small children, watch when you need cheering up, or put on with your special spoon if you're not just platonic spoons and make out while watching, not unlike Transformers. Happy Feet happens to be one of my personal favorite movies. I actually have a Mumble plushy that says "I'm bein' spon-tan-u-ous." It inspires me.

Heck yes.

We're All Gonna Die (Thoughts on Homework)

Spoon Tunes is in the works still, lovely utensils! My i-Tunes is down, so it's going to have to wait until I manage to resurrect it. That definitely makes i-Tunes sound like Frankenstein a little bit. Cool. Very cool.

Since Spoon Tunes is on hold, I'm just going to do the song I'm listening to via youtube right now, which is "Pretty Little Thing" by Fink of course!
Life goal #133- learn to play this on guitar. Serenade someone, in a totally non creepy way. Preferably, serenade someone you know.

Anywho, I thought I'd share my thoughts on homework and spooning, considering I currently have a vast quantity of homework that I've been working on for what feels like forever.

Honestly, you've got to do your homework. After all, it's great to learn, and knowledge is power. It's lovely and important, and the best spooning companions are super intelligent cuddly people with whom you can have fascinating conversations. Of course, that's my own heavily biased opinion, but heck, this whole thing is my opinion, so who cares!

But let's face it people - we're all gonna die. This isn't to put a damper on things; rather, this is to empower you! Carpe diem my spoons! Carpe amici laeta amoreque (Sieze your friends with happiness and love)! Everyone loves a Latin geek.

So, in the grand tradition of classic/amazing works such as John Donne's "The Flea" and Andrew Marvel's "To His Coy Mistress" (Sexy poem=sexy link. Watch it.), life is short. Get your spoon on, and enjoy your body, your friends, and your incredible ability to cuddle without being limited by arthritis pain. But don't neglect your work to do it! Homework first, spooning second. But stay on top of your homework (in a non sketchy way) so you have tons of time to spoon.

This is when time management fo realz pays off, peeps. Make it happen.

When life gives you lemons...

Whack them with a spoon!

Sometimes, life gets you down, but spooning helps pick you up! They're like the skin's own warm, snuggly prozac. If life were a merry go round, spooning would be that point when your pony/bunny/dragon/panda/giraffe reaches its pinnacle of height and you can't help but smile because you're on top of the world - or at least, you're on top of a colorful fake critter, and that's pretty close to the world. Kind of. Ish.

Anyways, spooning makes life better. So here are my thoughts on pick-me-up snuggles. Warmness is good. Body contact is good. Comfort is good. Tension is bad. I want some snuggles, because I am whiny and ridiculous.

Whining is bad. But sometimes, it's good for you. So I'm going to get it out of my system WHINE WHINE WHINE oh life is so unfair even though I live in a 1st world country and have all my needs provided for and attend a great school and have lots of people who love/like/tolerate me.

See! I just made myself look dumb, and I made myself laugh - all at the same time! So I feel better/ridiculous. Hooray!

Spoon Tunes (Part 1)

I have compiled a list of 91 songs that I personally find snuggle appropriate, some romantic, some not romantic.

Plus 1 song actually, which is not snuggle appropriate in my opinion, but that I love anyways. This delightful extraneous tune is of course "Friends with Benefits" by 7 $ Sox. If that's what you want out of your spooning, go for it. But personally, no thank you. It's an amazing song though, whether you're looking for that sort of relationship or not. Definitely a good tune to get your groove on to.

So 91 is kind of a large number, though I may add or remove a few as I go back through my lists, but I thought I'd just go through a few a day until we reach the end. The romantic and the nonromantic kind of overlap, but then there are some clear outliers that are decidedly one or the other. Like John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland." That's pretty romantic. (Please note, while sex and romance are not the same thing, on my list they are.) So while I guess I should technically say that "Your Body is a Wonderland" is sexy...I'm still gonna say it's romantic! Why? Because I can! Hooray for power!

Okay, power trip over. Today's selections are as follows:

1. "Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down)" by The All-American Rejects. It's a fantastic song, very chill, very all about being with one other person and enjoying it, even if the world ends. Heck, if the world ends I am definitely going to be snuggling as the world comes down.
   
2. "I'm With You" by Avril Lavigne - more on the romance-y side. This edgy pop princess definitely is a good choice for enhancing your cuddling experience, especially her more mellow selections.
   
3. "Steal My Kisses" by Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals. Romantic, adorable turn of the millennium classic.
   
4. "The Longest Time" by Billy Joel. Fricking amazing. And who doesn't want someone to intend to hold them for the longest time? Also, this is amazing done a cappella.
   
5. "No Rain" by Blind Melon. Good tune for some very relaxing snuggles.
   
6. "A Whole New World" from the Aladdin soundtrack. This is of course super romantic, and down right amazing. 10 extra points to anyone who actually sings this to their cuddle utensil of choice. Both parts.
   
7. "Hey Juliet" by LMNT. "I think you're fine. You really blow my mind. Maybe someday you and me can run away. I just want you to know, I wanna be your Romeo." Can you get any happier than this 90's classic? Let's ponder this...ummm...not really, nope. It's a little upbeat for relaxed snuggles though.
   
8. "Put Your Records On (Acoustic)" by Corinne Bailey Rae. Very relaxing, especially appropriate when you've got your hair down and you just want to kick back and get your cuddle on. Particularly appropriate for all female snuggle gatherings.
   
9. "Knights of the Island Counter" by Dave Melillo. Depressing, but great melody. It's heavily alcohol themed, so it might be good for intoxicated snuggling? Personally, I like it for sleepy snuggling.
   
10. "Soul Meets Body" by Death Cab for Cutie. Amazing. 'Nuff said.
    
11. "Take It Easy" by The Eagles. Good for when you're really wound up, and you and your fellow utensil need to remind each other of the joys of relaxing and cuddling.
    
12. "Trolley Wood" by Eisley. Actually, the entire CD of Room Noises is perfect for cuddling. It's very relaxing and very filled with happiness, love, and oddities. So basically, if cuddling had a theme song, it would probably be Eisley related.
    
13. "Rock 'N' Roll" by Eric Hutchinson. Technically, this is a folk song. It's been pretty populate lately, and with just cause. It's supa chill and supa awesome. Just like you.
    
14. "Time on Your Side" by Emily Jane White. It just makes the tension melt out of me, which could mean potential melting into a fellow spoon and making the snuggles even better. I love it. So so so so much.
    
15. "Sewn (Radio Edit)" by The Feeling. It's basically about somebody being whipped, but in a good, happy, loving way if that makes any sense. So they're sewn. And that's pretty much what cuddle buddies are - they're sewn in regard to each other. That in tandem with the fact that it's a gosh darn wonderful song with a gosh darn wonderful chorus makes it perfect for cuddling.
    

Goodness, that's a lot of tunes! I was going to try to link videos to all of these, and then I decided that I am lazy, tired, and getting up at 6 am tomorrow. So that kind of died before it even began. However, do listen to these, especially if you think they sound interesting! I know I have kind of ecclectic tastes and opinions in regard to music, so here's hoping there's something for everybody lurking somewhere in there!

Okay, so "lurking" is a little ominous and threatening sounding. Let's go with "nestling" instead. Also, I need to talk about music in general at some point. I'm making a large mental post-it about it.
